Automatic Error Recovery

Mar 19, 2026

In this video, we will go over FANUC’s Automatic Error Recovery feature and how it helps keep production running smoothly when alarms interrupt robot operations. During production, alarms can cause the robot to stop, requiring manual intervention to resume. This feature automates that process, reducing downtime and improving efficiency.
We will explore two key recovery methods:

  • Resume Program Function – When an alarm occurs, the robot executes a defined recovery program from the exact position where it was interrupted.
  • Fast Exit Entry Feature – When an alarm occurs, the robot completes its original program using only motion commands before executing a maintenance program.

To use these features, you’ll need the J924 Automatic Error Recovery Function software option. We’ll also cover how to configure key settings – such as defining alarms to monitor, automatic execution method, and status output signals.

Requirements to use Automatic Error Recovery

  • FANUC robot with J924 Automatic Error Recovery Function option
  • Access to the teach pendant for configuration
  • Alarm code list manual for facility codes

What You Will Learn

  • How to enable and configure the Automatic Error Recovery function
  • The difference between Resume Program and Fast Exit Entry methods
  • How to set up common settings, resume program settings, and maintenance program settings
  • Best practices for avoiding endless recovery loops and ensuring safe restart conditions

By the end of this video, you’ll understand how to implement automatic error recovery to minimize downtime and maintain productivity in your robotic operations.
