Secure File Transfer with SFTP Server - Part 1

Feb 24, 2026

In Part 1 of this series, we'll configure an SFTP server on your R-50iA controller to establish secure, encrypted connections. We'll begin by verifying prerequisites: V10.10P/24 or later software, the SFTP server option (S612), and TCP/IP connectivity on port 22.

Next, we'll configure local password users, demonstrating why Setup level access is required by testing both restricted and valid accounts. Finally, we'll connect using OpenSSH and WinSCP, covering host key verification and basic file operations.

Requirements:

  • R-50iA controller running V10.10P/24 or later
  • Installed SFTP server option (S612)
  • Verified TCP/IP connectivity and network access to port 22

What You'll Learn in This Video:

  • How to verify system requirements and confirm SFTP prerequisites
  • How to configure local password users with appropriate access levels
  • How to connect securely using OpenSSH and WinSCP

By the end of this video, you'll have a functional SFTP setup using password authentication. In Part 2, we'll explore directory navigation and file transfer operations in detail. In Part 3, we'll configure public key authentication for enhanced security and demonstrate concurrent SFTP connections.
